My name is Alison J. Harris and I earned a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida in December 2014. I have five years of experience working in libraries and enjoy learning about new technology. I am currently employed as a Library Technical Assistant at a public library in Florida.
In my job, I function as an instructor specializing in technology and digital literacy. I plan, organize and teach digital literacy classes for the community on a basic to advanced technology topics as well as provide reference services to library customers. I’m also involved in a local partnership with CoderDojo Tampa Bay Area, which provides free classes on computer programming to children and teens using Scratch, App Inventor, Code.org, and Codecademy.com.
My experiences in public libraries has allowed me to see contemporary changes in librarianship first hand, such as the evolution of eBooks and the growing importance of community spaces, and I feel it is an exciting time for the profession.
This website includes a portfolio with examples of work accomplished while gaining work experience and earning my degree. You will also find my blog with posts about my coursework, adult programming ideas, and current trends in librarianship.
